Ian is an experienced business immigration attorney who advises employers, universities, healthcare organizations, research institutions, and foreign nationals on the full spectrum of employment-based immigration matters.
With more than 15 years of exclusive immigration law experience, he partners with clients to develop practical, strategic solutions that help organizations attract and retain international talent while navigating an increasingly complex regulatory environment.
Ian represents employers and individuals in both immigrant and nonimmigrant matters, with particular experience in extraordinary ability and advanced degree cases, including EB-1, EB-2 National Interest Waiver (NIW), and O-1 petitions. He has extensive experience counseling academic institutions, research organizations, and healthcare employers, and has successfully represented faculty, physicians, scientists, engineers, researchers, and other highly skilled professionals throughout the immigration process. His practice also includes advising multinational companies across industries such as semiconductor manufacturing, automotive manufacturing, construction, and market research.
Before entering private practice, Ian served as an in-house immigration advisor at a leading research university, where he managed both immigrant and nonimmigrant matters for faculty and research personnel across disciplines including medicine, pharmacy, engineering, astronomy, optics, architecture, and the sciences. He also administered a high-volume J-1 scholar program, giving him valuable insight into the unique immigration challenges faced by higher education institutions and research organizations. Earlier in his career, he practiced at a boutique immigration law firm representing universities and employers in a variety of industries.
Ian is an active member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), NAFSA: Association of International Educators, and the International Medical Graduate Taskforce. He has contributed to AILA publications and continuing legal education programs, including presentations and publications addressing J-1 waivers (Waivers of the Two-Year Home Residency Requirement for J Visa Holders, The Waivers Book: Strategies for Overcoming Inadmissibility, Removability, and Other Barriers to Immigration Benefits, 4th & 5th eds., 2022 & 2025) and other complex immigration topics. He earned his J.D., along with a Certificate in International Trade and Business Law, from the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law, and his B.A., cum laude, from the University of Arizona.
